Brett Moffatt is an Australian based photographer and artist. His work focuses on presence/absence in relation to memories, dreams and fantasies. Often evoking the surreal, his work reflects the inner emotional worlds of the subjects as well as how objects and places contain the ethereal sense of memories and imaginings. He captures personal and provocative responses of his subjects. His work evokes a haunting sense of mystery and beauty, perpetuating the traditions of romantic painting and literature. This is underpinned by authentic, direct and meaningful experiences with his subjects. His content focuses on people, however also includes still lives and places.

His portrait of Cate Cambell OAM was highly commended as a finalist in the 2019 Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture.  In 2017 his portrait of world champion swimmer Cate Campbell OAM was a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. In 2015/16 he was selected for a mentorship with Nick Knight as part of Fashion Photography: Mastered. He has been awarded nine prizes including in 2004, an Ian Potter Cultural Trust Scholarship to travel and study art in Florence, Italy; and was a finalist for the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2003. Moffatt has had 7 solo exhibitions and has been included in over 20 group curated and commercial exhibitions including the New York International Art Expo in 2003.
